#MusicMonday: Asukal "Ways2Love"
Our fave cyber futuristic pop producer + artist Asukal is back with her newest and most vulnerable single, “ways2love”. New York-based, Manila-raised Raquel Undheim’s name pays homage to both her Philippine roots and her music - Asukal means ‘sugar’ in Tagalog - and reflects her sugary pop aesthetic as well as the sugar cane farm owned by her parents. She tells tmrw that “ways2love” reflects on both “the importance of self-love and what it’s like growing up in a society with Eurocentric beauty ideals.”
Asukal says about the single: “ ‘ways2love’ is a little different than the other songs I’ve produced. I’d describe it as cyber futuristic pop meets 90s club vibes with some trap elements. It’s a little more serious than my other songs. Even though I’ve contrasted dark lyrics with hyper cheerful bubble pop production in the past, I wanted the production in ‘ways2love’ to sound more mature and reflect the real and raw subject of the song."
